WALK IN THE WOODS by SUE HADDRILL
This month’s gallery, Inspired by Hockney, proved to be challenging; I have never really studied artists’ work before and certainly not with a view to photography. It was great that so many people had so many varied images.
I have chosen Sue Haddrill’s picture. It stood out to me as a great image in Hockney’s style with the avenue of trees leading you into the image. The people add scale. I didn’t mind that it had a few people in the image as it adds extra bright colours, and I love the brightness of autumn. Sue’s post production on the image is amazing; it really feels like a painting. I’m sure this is somewhere Hockney would have loved to visit many times as he loved nature and followed the seasons of the year, returning to the same place many time to catch the changing light and landscapes throughout the year. A great picture proves photography can stand up to the artists.
