MYSTERY OBJECT by MIKE MELLERS
Choosing the best image from the traditional Christmas Mystery Gallery was a challenge. Many of the interesting images foxed all of the members, but the image that stood out for me was this one taken by Mike Mellers. This artistic, well-lit and composed image was one of the highlights and it resulted in numerous intriguing, though incorrect, suggestions. The only problem was that, apart from remembering it was a sculpture based on a Möbius strip, my mind was a blank. Email to the rescue. Here is Mike’s information on the artwork:
“The image displays Red Twisted Form, a sculpture created by Danish artist Merete Rasmussen (https://www.mereterasmussen.com/) in 2012. It is made of hand built stoneware with a sprayed, matt red glaze. Rasmussen’s sculptures explore the idea of a Möbius strip, a three-dimensional form with a single continuous surface and edge. The artist is inspired by mathematical surfaces and the natural world, aiming to capture movement in her work. The sculpture measures 50cm in height, 90cm in width, and 80cm in depth.”
