BLUE POTS by RODNEY DINNEN
I found it quite difficult to choose an image from the craftwork gallery to be image of the month. All the images except one (my “Stormy Weather” picture) featured examples of craftwork, many with interesting stories about them. For me the two most interesting in this respect were Ian’s ‘Architect’s Chair’ and Margaret’s ‘Frigger Dome’. I also liked the way some of the images included only a selected part of the main subject rather than the whole thing, leading the viewer to look closely at the craftwork and not get side-tracked into looking at other aspects. Examples here included Susan’s ‘Fireplace’ and Paul’s ‘Gloucester Cathedral Roof’.
After all that, the image I have chosen is Rodney Dinnen’s ’Blue Pots’. I like the way he is only showing us part of the pots, which concentrates attention on the colours, shapes and textures. However, for me the clincher is that the image as presented is a beautiful abstract picture which stands alone on its merits and could happily hang on someone’s wall – very clever.
