WORKS IN STONE: DENT HEAD by JOHN COOPER-SMITH
I have chosen John’s image from the Stonework Gallery, as I think there is a lot to like about it, and it’s not down to my passion for steam trains. Attention is immediately drawn to the drystone wall, which frames the image and leads the eye to the centre point. John has captured the main subject – the steam train travelling over the viaduct – brilliantly. The vibrant colours of the carriages, the ribbon of steam and smoke, the varying shades and textures of the surrounding landscape, just enough skyline to complement the contours of the hills help to create this stunning image. In my opinion, John has presented an aesthetically pleasing result. Well done!
