SCORCHED TREES ON ETNA by HARRY PINKERTON

Harry has adopted an original approach by deciding to concentrate on the post-fire remnants rather than a fire actually burning. The contrasting lines and shapes of the mountainside give depth to the image and the bleached trees emphasise the barrenness in the aftermath of the fire. It works well as a monochrome photograph. The image is rather pertinent regarding the effects of the heatwave which is affecting Europe just now and, whilst volcanic activity may not be influenced by other environmental factors, I see this image as a topical reminder of caring for the environment!
