INSTOW AND APPLEDORE, DEVON by JOHN BENTLEY
Every picture tells a story, but some do so more effectively than others. This image of John’s captures the feeling of just finishing a spell on the water. Hauling the boat up the slipway is clearly an effort. A successful, enjoyable or frustrating day? Who knows, but I suspect they are looking forward to dealing with the boat and then going for a pint. The image is an excellent combination of triangle and rectangles below a characterful evening sky. There are good reflections of sailors and clouds on the wet spillway and the uninviting mud. A sharp, well composed and exposed image.
