THISTLES by ELAINE NEWINGTON-WARD

I have chosen Thistles by Elaine Ward as this month’s POTM. Contrary to the thistle’s prickly reputation, this shows the downy softness of their seed heads at the final dying splendour of autumn. The composition captures heads at different stages of development and picks up the silvery sheen on each of the finest seed hairs, ready to parachute off on any passing breeze.
