Picture of the Month – October 2021

RAYS OF SUNSHINE by SUE HADDRILL

I have chosen Rays of Sunshine by Sue Haddrill as this month’s POTM. Sue has successfully tackled a difficult subject with a simple but very effective composition which emphasises the form of the subject flower very well. Yellow is a difficult colour for digital imaging because “yellow” in digital images covers everything from grass green through to orange. The subtleties of the range of yellows from the orange to the green are there in Sue’s image, which looks very natural to me (though I’m no expert on flowers!). I don’t normally approve of borders, but Sue has used a simple but effective border for this picture, which enhances it without looking gimmicky. All in all, this picture brightens up the dreariest of the current October weather to welcome effect.
